Benfica Al Duhail – Market: Santos Negotiates Return of Ex-Benfica Player

Santos has intensified negotiations to secure the return of former Benfica player Lucas Veríssimo, who currently plays for Al Duhail in Qatar. According to Globoesporte, which reported the information, the Brazilian club is optimistic about a positive outcome in a race against time, as the transfer window for foreign players closes on Tuesday. After an initial loan attempt was rejected, Santos submitted a new purchase proposal. The offer is approximately four million euros for 70% of the player's economic rights. A factor that may facilitate the player's release is the growing geopolitical tension in the Middle East. Recent attacks involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, including bombings at a U.S. military base in the country, have led to the suspension of football competitions and left the population on high alert. Santos' management is working to finalize the deal as quickly as possible. It is worth noting that after Tuesday, Brazilian clubs will only be able to sign players who have participated in state championships until March 27. Lucas Veríssimo, 30, is a well-known name among Santos fans, the club where he was trained. With the Vila Belmiro team, the former Benfica player won the Paulistão in 2016 and was the runner-up in the Libertadores in 2020.
