'I just spent some of my most terrifying days, having unfortunately witnessed firsthand what is happening in the Middle East,' the player wrote. Schar explained that his presence in the region was due to a rehabilitation program, but the situation quickly became frightening. 'I am glad I found a way to return home safely. But what we experienced there, and what is happening right now, is truly scary. I hope help reaches all the people who need it in the affected areas,' he added. The Magpies' center-back did not detail how he managed to leave the region, but the UK government has already begun evacuating British citizens.
