Javier Mascherano, coach of Inter Miami, addressed the team's recent visit to the White House. The team was received on Thursday by President Donald Trump to celebrate their victory in the 2025 MLS Cup, but ended up getting caught up in current political events, remaining silent behind Trump as he spoke about the conflict in Iran and Cuba. The president's lengthy speech surprised the delegation, as the coach admitted. 'I thought we were going to talk about football,' he began, before explaining the nature of the visit. 'We followed a protocol that is a tradition for the championship team. It was planned long ago for the week we would be playing in Washington. We were there for a few hours, saw a bit of the White House, not much. The contact with President Trump was what you saw on television, nothing more than that,' he explained. Remember that Inter Miami started the season with a 0-3 loss to LAFC but bounced back with a dramatic turnaround to defeat Orlando City 4-2. In that game, Lionel Messi scored twice in the second half, including a free-kick goal in the 90th minute. With these two goals, the Argentine star reached a total of 52 goals in 55 regular-season MLS games, raising his career total to 898 goals, just two shy of the historic 900 mark, a feat only achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo so far.
