Despite falling far short of expectations at Benfica, Everton Cebolinha is still providing value to the Eagles. The Brazilian winger joined Benfica in the 2020/2021 season and stayed for two seasons, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists in 95 matches, having previously scored 42 goals and provided 16 assists in the two and a half seasons before arriving at Luz. Everton was the second most expensive signing in Benfica's wealthy 2020 market, when Jorge Jesus returned to Luz, with an investment exceeding 100 million euros, which can be recalled in the photo gallery. At the time, as communicated to the CMVM, Benfica reserved 10 percent of the economic rights of the Brazilian international winger, but has since 'lost' that right. In compensation, however, they have earned an additional 1.5 million euros from another clause in the sale contract: for him to remain with Mengão until the end of December 2025. With his contract expiring at the end of this year, there are growing rumors in Brazil about a potential renewal for a player who is experiencing one of his best moments since returning to the country. "I am living a very good moment since the middle of last year. I am in a very good upward phase. I am very happy to be able to help the team, something I have always aimed for since my arrival, and I am reaping the rewards of a lot of hard work," he declared at the end of the last match. With three goals and one assist in the seven games played at the start of this season across the Atlantic, the 29-year-old player is beginning to justify the extension of his contract. Cebolinha was set to leave the club in a negotiation with Cruzeiro in the last market, but the renewal would also be seen by Flamengo as a way to not completely lose the investment of 16 million fixed paid to Benfica, plus the three million in bonuses they have already paid to the Eagles.
