Athletic Bilbao has been included in FIFA's digital platform that lists clubs prohibited from registering new players, facing a sanction that spans three transfer windows. The Basque club, however, downplays the situation, assuring that it is a minor issue that will be resolved soon. Since Wednesday, the name of the Spanish club has appeared on FIFA Registration Bans, a public list from the governing body of world football. The announced penalty prevents the club from registering athletes in the summer of 2026, the winter of 2027, and also in the summer of next year. FIFA explains that this disciplinary measure can be imposed by its legal bodies or the Football Tribunal due to various infractions, such as 'financial disputes or regulatory non-compliance.' However, the organization did not specify the exact reason that led to the sanction imposed on Athletic. According to the newspaper Marca, sources from the Bilbao club assure that the case will not have a significant impact and that the situation will be regularized quickly. 'It is a discrepancy over rights concerning a footballer that will be resolved in the next few hours,' said sources from the entity, treating the matter as a mere administrative procedure. In fact, this type of sanction can be lifted if the targeted club meets the necessary requirements to correct the infraction that led to the punishment, something that Athletic hopes to do as soon as possible to resolve the dispute with FIFA.
