Laporta Dominates Elections Secures New Term – Laporta Dominates Elections and Secures New Term at Barcelona

Joan Laporta, 63, has been re-elected president of Barcelona with a landslide victory over Víctor Font, securing 68.18% of the votes. Laporta thus ensures his fourth term at the helm of the blaugrana, which will extend until 2031. Out of a total of 48,480 votes cast, Laporta garnered the support of 32,934 members, while 53-year-old Víctor Font received 14,385 votes, corresponding to 29.78% of the total. Despite being the fourth election with the most voters in the club's history, the turnout was the second lowest ever in percentage terms, with only 42.34% of eligible voters participating. The electoral campaign turned into a clear plebiscite between two visions: the past, represented by Laporta, and the change advocated by Font. The decisive result confirmed the members' support for the re-elected president, who faced a united front of opposition. Font had the backing of figures such as former president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his vice-president Jordi Moix. This victory also represents a vote of confidence in Deco, the club's sporting director. The former Portuguese international faced criticism from Víctor Font, who claimed he would not rely on him, despite Deco's good relationship with coach Hansi Flick. However, the sporting director's work has been praised, with signings like Joan García, Dani Olmo, and João Cancelo proving to be successful. Deco has also managed to retain the backbone of the team and keep the club's young talents. After a break to watch the game this Sunday against Sevilla, Laporta continued to demonstrate his strength by receiving several players who came to vote, such as Raphinha, Pedri, Olmo, Gavi, Araujo, Fermín, Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Casadó, and Bernal, as well as coach Hansi Flick. Among the major challenges of Laporta's new term are the completion of the Camp Nou renovations, scheduled for 2028, and the reduction of the club's debt.
