Real Madrid Submits Comprehensive Evidence to UEFA in Vinícius Júnior Incident Case
Real Madrid has provided UEFA with all evidence related to the racism allegations involving Vinícius Júnior during the Champions League round of 16 match against Benfica, following a temporary match suspension.

Real Madrid announced on Thursday that it has submitted all evidence it collected to UEFA regarding the incidents that occurred during the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against Benfica at the Estádio da Luz.
The incidents took place last Tuesday, February 17, during the match in Lisbon, shortly after Vinícius Júnior scored a goal. The match referee, François Lexetier, activated the anti-racism protocol following reports from the Brazilian winger that he had been subjected to racist insults. These allegations included claims that Gianluca Prestianni, an Argentine player from Benfica, directed racist language towards Vinícius, reportedly calling him a "monkey" multiple times while covering his face with his shirt. The match was temporarily interrupted as a result of these events.
Real Madrid's statement emphasized the club's full cooperation with UEFA's ongoing investigation into the unacceptable episodes of racism experienced during the game. The club expressed gratitude for the widespread support and solidarity shown towards Vinícius Júnior from across the football community. Furthermore, Real Madrid reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant institutions to combat racism, violence, and hatred in sport and society.
According to reports from the Spanish newspaper Marca, the evidence submitted includes video footage and other documentation of racist gestures from the stands directed at Real Madrid players, particularly Vinícius Júnior, alongside the alleged verbal insults from the opposing player. This comprehensive submission aims to assist UEFA in thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the match interruption and the broader issue of racism in football.
Looking ahead, UEFA's investigation will determine any disciplinary measures or sanctions related to the incidents. Meanwhile, Real Madrid prepares for upcoming fixtures in both domestic and European competitions, with the club and its supporters closely monitoring developments in this case. The situation highlights ongoing challenges faced by football authorities in addressing racism and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all players.
