Accepting the Forest Ange Postecoglou – Postecoglou: ‘Accepting the Forest job was a wrong decision, I don’t know what I was thinking’

Ange Postecoglou admitted that his decision to take the coaching position at Nottingham Forest, succeeding Nuno Espírito Santo, now at West Ham, was a mistake. The Greek-Australian coach was dismissed after a disappointing run of 39 days without a win and believes that this move was too hasty following his departure from Tottenham in the summer. Postecoglou's exit from Spurs was particularly surprising, as it occurred just weeks after he won the UEFA Europa League. In statements made on the podcast The Overlap, the coach addressed the emotional state that led him to rush back into action. "The whole situation at Forest was my fault. I think it was a case of 'be careful what you wish for,'" he began. "It was a bad decision on my part to go there, and I have to take responsibility for that. It doesn't make sense to blame the timing or the circumstances – I should never have gone. It was too soon after Tottenham. I went at a time when they were used to doing things a certain way, and although I always did things differently, I have to accept that. It was my mistake. No one else is to blame," he stated. "It was the first time I hadn't worked in over 20 years, and I was lost. In pre-season, we are usually busy – transfers, preparation, the mind is always working. This time it wasn't." Postecoglou's brief tenure lasted only eight games, without a win. "Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking. I should have had more in-depth conversations before accepting the job. But I've always been the kind of person who says: 'Put me in there, and I'll show you,'" added the former Tottenham manager.
