Negotiations for Arthur Cabral’s Transfer Between Botafogo and Corinthians Stall
Transfer talks between Botafogo and Corinthians regarding Arthur Cabral have stalled, with disagreements over financial terms preventing a deal.

Negotiations between Botafogo and Corinthians concerning the potential transfer of forward Arthur Cabral have not concluded successfully. Despite recent meetings between the clubs, no agreement has been reached on the terms of the player's move.
The discussions took place on a Friday at the Joaquim Grava training center, involving Marcelo Paz, Corinthians' director of football, and Alessandro Brito, Botafogo's director of sports management. At the time, Botafogo was preparing for their Brasileirão fixture against Bragantino. The talks focused on a possible loan deal for Arthur Cabral, who currently plays for Botafogo and is contracted until the end of 2028.
Arthur Cabral, who was signed by Botafogo in June 2025 from Benfica for a reported fee of 15 million euros including bonuses, has experienced a mixed spell at the Rio de Janeiro club. Although brought in as part of the squad for the Club World Cup in the United States, he has struggled to consistently perform due to fluctuations in form and injuries. To date, he has scored six goals and provided four assists in 40 appearances.
Botafogo proposed a loan arrangement lasting until the end of 2026, including an option to buy the player permanently after the loan period. Under this proposal, Corinthians would be responsible for covering Arthur Cabral's full salary during the loan. However, Corinthians' management found these financial terms unacceptable and indicated they would only consider proceeding if Botafogo agreed to share the player's wage costs. This disagreement over salary responsibilities has been the main obstacle preventing the completion of the transfer.
The current impasse leaves Arthur Cabral's immediate future uncertain, with no clear resolution yet in sight. Both clubs may revisit negotiations or explore alternative options in the transfer market as the season progresses. Meanwhile, Botafogo will continue to rely on their squad for upcoming Brasileirão matches, while Corinthians evaluate their squad needs and financial strategies moving forward.
