Chiquinho Conde has signed a new contract to continue leading the Mambas until July 31, 2027, the Mozambican federation announced this Saturday. This decision comes nearly two months after the Mozambican coach left his position following a historic performance at CAN 2025. In a statement, the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) indicated that the new agreement with Francisco Queriol Conde Júnior, a former forward who made a name for himself in Portugal with teams such as Vitória de Setúbal, SC Braga, and Sporting, took effect on February 1, 2026, ensuring his continuity with the national team. The renewal is part of the FMF's institutional planning for the current competitive cycle, aiming to provide stability to the sports project and consolidate the results achieved in recent years. The decision follows the end of the previous contract on January 31 and a period of reflection, announced at that time by FMF Vice President for Studies, Projects, Marketing, and Public Relations, Gervásio de Jesus, regarding the future of the technical command of the Mozambican national team. Chiquinho Conde, 60, took charge of the Mambas in October 2021, succeeding Horácio Gonçalves, and led Mozambique to two final phases of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). At CAN 2025, the Mambas reached the knockout stage for the first time after a victory over Gabon (3-2), but were eliminated in the round of 16 by Nigeria (0-4). In the qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Mozambique remained in the running for qualification until the final rounds but finished in third place in Group G, with 18 points, behind Algeria (25) and Uganda (18), missing out on direct access to the final phase.
