Vítor Pereira's first game in charge of Nottingham Forest in the Premier League ended with a cold shower. The Tricky Trees lost at home 0-1 to Liverpool on Sunday in a clash of the 27th round of the English championship. If the first half was a glimpse of what is to come for the Tricky Trees, fans at the City Ground may have hope in the fight for survival. The first 45 minutes were largely dominated by Forest, who, with a well-structured setup, repeatedly hindered Liverpool's ball progression. There were several recoveries in the offensive midfield, and quick attacks followed one after another, with the Portuguese coach's team not allowing any dangerous chances for the opponent. However, effectiveness did not match the quality of play. Hudson-Odoi forced Alisson into a tight save right at the 3rd minute, and at the 39th minute, Van Dijk made a great clearance to prevent Igor Jesus from shooting in the heart of the area to open the scoring. The dominance did not continue in the second half, but for much of the second half, the Reds were not as dangerous as their opponents, who continued to create danger on the counterattack. Creating problems in the final third was an issue for Arne Slot's team, in a match where Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, the wingers, had little to no impact. The introduction of Rio Ngumoha proved decisive when, at the 89th minute, the young winger advanced down the line, crossed, and allowed Ekitiké to head the ball on the goal line. The Frenchman forced a great save from Ortega, but in the moment to clear the danger, Ola Aina deflected the ball… against Mac Allister. The ball deflected off the Liverpool midfielder and only stopped in the back of the net. The celebration of Liverpool fans did not last more than a few minutes, as after a review of the footage, the goal was disallowed because the ball hit the Argentine's elbow. The Reds did not give up, and in the 90'+7, the 1-0 counted for real. On the second attempt, it was finally Mac Allister who took advantage of the rebound from Van Dijk's header to score the winning goal. Vítor Pereira's frustration at the moment of the conceded goal reflected a point thrown away for Nottingham Forest. A point that would have been deserved for the good performance, especially in the first half, where the home team was more dangerous than the visitors were in the second half until the moment of the two goals. A negative result, but a performance with positive signs for a team that has 11 matches left to continue escaping the relegation places in the Premier League. The Tricky Trees are in 17th place, with only two points more than West Ham, managed by Nuno Espírito Santo, the first club in the relegation zone to the Championship.
