Costa Rican footballer Derrickson Quirós, who plays for Club Xelajú in Guatemala, announced the end of his engagement on social media just three days after a proposal that went viral. What seemed like a scene from a romantic movie had an unexpected ending. Last Sunday, after his team's victory over Marquense by 4-2, the 24-year-old midfielder knelt on the field of the Mario Camposeco stadium and proposed to his girlfriend, Wendy. The moment, sealed with a hug and a passionate kiss, was captured on video and quickly went viral throughout Central America. However, the media love story was short-lived. Just three days after the proposal, Quirós announced the end of the engagement through his social media. The player, who has represented clubs in Costa Rica such as Cartaginés, Santos de Guápiles, and Limón Black Star, addressed the situation with maturity. "Yes, it is true that my relationship (engagement) has ended. It was a difficult personal situation, like any separation, but I prefer to deal with it with respect and maturity. I will not speak ill of anyone or go into details because it was a relationship that, at its moment, was important to me," stated the Xelajú athlete. On his Instagram page, Derrickson Quirós added that his focus is now on his career and personal growth. "Now I am focused on my career, my team, and continuing to grow as a person. I appreciate the support from people and hope they can respect this moment. Thank you," he wrote. For her part, the now ex-fiancée also took to social media to leave an enigmatic message about what happened: "In the end, there will never be a better answer than the one silence offers."
