Former Brazilian international Fábio Bilica, who has been away from football since 2021, will return to the pitch to represent Grêmio Mauaense, a club in the lowest division of the São Paulo championship. At 47 years old, the central defender, who was a starter for the Brazilian national team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, has decided to end his retirement, with the announcement officially made by the club through social media, highlighting the vast experience of this significant signing. "With a solid and respected career in national and international football, Bilica has played for major clubs in Brazil, Europe, and the Brazilian National Team," reads the official statement from the modest club. Formed at Vitória, Fábio Bilica moved to Italian football in 1998, where he represented Venezia, Palermo, Brescia, and Ancona, remaining in Italy until 2003. In 2004, he returned to Brazil to play for Grêmio, where he made 27 appearances. His international career also included stints at clubs in Germany (Cologne), France (Istres), and Romania (Cluj and Universitatea Cluj), before settling in Turkey for seven seasons. During that time, he played for Fenerbahçe for three seasons, winning a national championship title. Before retiring in 2021, he also played for Fluminense de Feira de Santana-BA and Forte FC-ES. For the Brazilian national team, Bilica participated in the U-20 World Cup in 1999 and the 2000 Olympics, where Brazil was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Cameroon. The "Segundona Paulista," which corresponds to the fifth and final state division, is set to begin on April 16. Grêmio Mauaense is placed in Group 4, along with Manthiqueira, Barcelona-SP, Itaquaquecetuba Athletico Clube (IAC), Mauá, and União Mogi.
