Bodo/Glimt pulled off a major surprise on Tuesday in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff, defeating Inter Milan 2-1 in Milan. This result gave the Norwegian team a 5-2 advantage on aggregate, securing their place in the Champions League round of 16, where they could face Sporting or Manchester City. It was not expected to be an easy task for the Nerazzurri to turn around against Bodo/Glimt, who had already won 3-1 in the first leg and had previously defeated Manchester City and Atlético Madrid, as well as drawing against Dortmund and Tottenham in this edition of the Champions League. However, trailing by two goals, the home team had no choice but to attack relentlessly. The first half featured a header from Evjen, saved by Sommer in two attempts, as the only opportunity for the visiting team. Otherwise, it was all Inter. Dimarco was one of the most determined players, with successive crosses and shots. But the finishing touch was lacking. Shots went over and wide, not to mention the good saves by Haikin, who denied the Italian international a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. The visiting team's defensive solidity was tested time and again but remained mostly solid to take the scoreless tie into halftime. By the time the teams returned to the locker rooms, Inter had fired 12 shots, while Bodo/Glimt had none. The hosts' insistence continued into the second half until, at the 58th minute, the Nordic chill descended over Giuseppe Meazza. The stands froze at the glaring error by Akanji, who, in an attempt to pass back, allowed Hogh to regain possession. The forward shot, Sommer saved, but Hauge appeared alone to score the first goal of the match on the rebound. Inter felt the disadvantage and, chasing a three-goal deficit, began to show less patience with the ball but still managed to fight for a goal. In the 69th minute, misfortune struck Akanji again, who, served by Dimarco, hit the post. Three minutes later, the goal did come… but it was Bodo/Glimt's second. Hauge, the creative force, was again involved, this time with a pass to Evjen, who unleashed a powerful cross-shot to extend the lead to 2-0. Inter did manage to reduce the deficit through Bastoni, but could not avoid a 1-2 defeat, which resulted in a 2-5 aggregate score. Bodo/Glimt achieved double the goals of Inter with seven shots, while Inter fired 30 times and made 51 crosses. The runner-up from last season's edition said goodbye to the competition.
