Liam Manning, head coach of Huddersfield Town in the third tier of English football, has been granted leave for personal reasons until the end of the current season, as announced by the club. The decision comes due to personal issues related to the tragic passing of his newborn son, Theo, in October 2024. The club issued a statement formalizing the situation and expressing its support for the 40-year-old coach. "The head coach of the Huddersfield Town men's first team, Liam Manning, has been granted personal leave for the remainder of the 2025/26 season," the club's statement reads. "Liam has informed the club of ongoing personal issues related to the tragic passing of his newborn son, Theo, in October 2024, and he will now be given time away from his professional duties." Huddersfield also assured that "Liam, his wife Fran, their eldest son Isaac, and the entire Manning family have the full support of everyone at Huddersfield Town." The club will maintain regular contact with the coach and his family, requesting that their privacy be respected. A post shared by Huddersfield Town (@htafc) It is worth noting that this is not the first time Manning has temporarily stepped away from football for this reason. At the time of Theo's death, shortly after birth, the coach, who was then managing Bristol City, also took a leave of absence for several weeks. Upon his return to Bristol City, Manning expressed gratitude for the support received, describing it as "truly overwhelming." In a statement, he said: "In the most difficult moment of my life and my family's, the support we received from Bristol City fans and the football family in general was truly overwhelming. From the England U21 game at Ashton Gate to the match in Middlesbrough, we were genuinely touched by the reaction and felt proud to have been able to share Theo's name." In Manning's absence, who took charge of Huddersfield in January, the team – which is fighting for promotion to the Championship – will be jointly led by Martin Drury and Jon Stead until the end of the season, with support from the rest of the coaching staff.
