Abel Ferreira has been charged by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) due to his expulsion in the classic match between São Paulo and Palmeiras, risking a suspension that could range from one to six games, according to Globoesporte. The Palmeiras coach was sent off for accumulating yellow cards at the 33rd minute of the second half of the match, which his team won 1-0. According to the match referee, Anderson Daronco, Abel Ferreira allegedly called him a "coward." The charge is based on Article 258 of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code (CBJD), which punishes "any conduct contrary to discipline or sports ethics." The accusation emphasizes the recurring nature of the coach's behavior, as he has already been sent off three times this season. In a document cited by Globoesporte, the STJD prosecution highlights the Portuguese coach's disciplinary history since his arrival in Brazil in 2020. "Since arriving in Brazil in 2020, he is the coach who has received the most warnings and suspensions: thirty yellow cards and five red cards. One fact stands out: no player from Palmeiras or any other coach in the country has received more warnings than he has during this period," the document states. In addition to the disciplinary process against Abel Ferreira, both clubs involved in the classic have also been charged for delays. São Paulo, as the host, delayed the start of the game by five minutes due to a pyrotechnics show. Meanwhile, Palmeiras took three minutes to return from the locker rooms for the second half. Both clubs could face sanctions under Article 206 of the CBJD, which provides for fines ranging from 16 to 165 euros for each minute of delay. The trial for all those involved is expected to take place by April 19. Meanwhile, Abel Ferreira will serve an automatic suspension in the next match against Grêmio, coached by Luís Castro.
