According to the medical report from Paris Saint-Germain, the Portuguese international has sustained an injury to his left ankle and will miss the match this Saturday against Le Havre in Ligue 1. This will be the 12th game that the former Benfica player has missed this season due to physical issues, occurring over four distinct periods. The first three were muscular injuries (in September, October, and January), and now he faces a traumatic injury. In total, he has suffered four injuries and has been out for 52 days. This stands in stark contrast to what happened in the 2024/2025 season, where João Neves played 67 matches across all competitions (including national team duties): qualifying for the U21 European Championship, Nations League, French Cup, French Super Cup, Ligue 1, Champions League, and Club World Cup. He had practically no rest, missing only two games due to a traumatic injury. However, he won many titles: Ligue 1, French Cup, Super Cup, Champions League (the first in the history of PSG), and was a runner-up in the Club World Cup. The bill is being paid now. In the lead-up to the match against Le Havre, PSG's coach did not specify the case of the 21-year-old midfielder but justified the numerous injuries in the squad. "I would love to, but it would be impossible to have all the players available this season. Last season was very intense, and we only had three weeks of vacation. These guys are footballers, not machines," said Luis Enrique. "We have never played with the same ten starters from last season's Champions League. Even so, we are first in the league and in the round of 16 of the Champions League, which is remarkable. In some statistical data, we are even performing better than last season," the Spanish coach added. Nevertheless, in the case of João Neves, there is a much more positive record: he has already scored more goals in 28 games this season than in the previous one: 9 compared to 7.
