The 'tifo' featured an image of Joan of Arc clad in armor and wielding a sword, accompanied by the French national flag. The banner bore the English inscriptions "The French never die," "Proud. Strong. Fierce," and "Joan raises her sword, and Lille continues to fight." This imagery and text referenced the historical context of the Hundred Years' War, a series of conflicts between France and England spanning from the 14th to the 15th centuries.

Lille, a club that includes Portuguese players Félix Correia and Tiago Santos, was fined €17,500 specifically for the display of this banner. Additionally, the club faced further penalties related to fan behaviour during the match, including the throwing of objects, the lighting of flares, and delays to the match's start time. These infractions contributed to a total fine amounting to €82,750.

The match itself ended in a 1-0 victory for Aston Villa, and Lille was ultimately eliminated from the UEFA Europa League with an aggregate score of 3-0. This outcome concluded Lille's campaign in the competition for the season.
