Nampalys Mendy vehemently commented on the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations title, calling it scandalous and damaging to the image of African football. The experienced midfielder, who became an African champion with the Teranga Lions in 2021, was not included in the squad for this year's edition in Morocco. However, in statements to Footmercato, he did not hide his outrage at the events. "It's a scandal," declared the Watford player, who has played for Monaco, Nice, Leicester, and Lens. "For me, African football is the one that suffered the blow, not just Senegal. No one respects us after this; here in England, they talk about it and laugh. In my team, Watford, they also talk about it. People see Africans as clowns. It's not right; it's also ridiculous for the Moroccans," he added.
