Portuguese coach Vítor Campelos, 50, was officially announced today as the new manager of NK Celje, the current leaders of the Slovenian top division. The coach had been without a club since managing Aves SAD last season. Campelos succeeds Spanish coach Albert Riera, who moved to German club Eintracht Frankfurt. Following Riera's departure, the team was temporarily managed by assistant Ivan Mayevski, but a drop in performance resulted in a reduction of their lead, which shrank from twelve to just five points over second-placed FC Koper. The Portuguese coach's debut is scheduled for the next round and will be in a highly significant match, as NK Celje will visit the home ground of vice-leaders FC Koper. It is worth noting that Vítor Campelos has experience with several clubs, including Trofense, Vitória de Guimarães (both first team and B), Moreirense, Chaves, Gil Vicente, Aves SAD, and a stint in Saudi Arabia with Al Taawon.
