CAN The Patrice Motsepe – CAF says it will ‘respect any decision’ from the CAS regarding the CAN

The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, stated this Sunday that the organization will respect 'any decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)' regarding the withdrawal of the title of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) from Senegal. 'We will respect any decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding the decision to revoke the title of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) from Senegal,' said the top official of African football. Motsepe spoke to the press after the CAF Executive Committee meeting held this Sunday in Cairo, adding that he cannot say more than what has already been said regarding the decision to strip Senegal of the title. On March 17, CAF punished Senegal with a 0-3 defeat, which had won against Morocco (1-0) in a tumultuous final of the CAN 2025 on January 18 in Rabat. During stoppage time, Senegal's players left the field in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco, which Moroccan player Brahim Díaz ended up missing. In extra time, Senegal took the lead with Pape Gueye scoring the only goal of the match, allowing the Senegalese to achieve victory in the continental competition. CAF had already punished coach Pape Thiaw with a five-match suspension and both federations with hefty fines. On Saturday, at the Stade de France in Paris, Senegal, which appealed to the CAS, showcased the Africa Cup of Nations champion trophy to fans before a friendly match against Peru. Captain Kalidou Koulibaly took the trophy onto the field, which was passed around to the sound of a mini-concert by Senegalese star Youssou Ndour. The president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, had already described CAF's decision as the 'most blatant administrative theft in the history of sports' and stated that 'Senegal refuses to accept this outcome.'
