Nuno Espírito Santo, current manager of West Ham, addressed the growing instability among managers in the Premier League with a touch of humor. When asked about the longevity of coaches in England—a paradigm that has been radically changing in recent years—the Portuguese 'accepted' to use his own experience as a reflection of the current reality. "Maybe I'm not the best example," he joked, reacting to the observation that, in the past, coaches lasted several years at clubs in the English league. "It has a very broad reading. It is no longer so normal… so many coaches last less time in England. It has to do with ownership, it has to do with many things. But what has ceased to be normal is not so much here [Portugal], but there [England]," he analyzed after being one of the speakers at the ANTF 2026 Coaches Forum, which is taking place in the Algarve. It is worth remembering that in the 21/22 season he only managed 17 games at Tottenham and also left Nottingham Forest this season after just 3 games, following two successful seasons—including qualifying the team for the UEFA Europa League. Speaking of European competitions, NES briefly commented on the upcoming European match between two teams he has managed, Nottingham Forest and FC Porto, in the Europa League, anticipating a "very competitive" clash: "Hmm… I confess, I'm not really looking at that competition, the Europa League, but I'm sure it will be a very competitive game. FC Porto is one of the best teams in Portuguese football, Nottingham is filled with talent, so it will definitely be a complicated and competitive match." The manager also addressed the call-up of Mateus Fernandes to the National Team. "I just hope he returns well [laughs], especially because we have an important game on Sunday [FA Cup against Leeds], but I'm very, very happy for him. I think he deserves it. He is having a fantastic season, works hard, has a lot of talent, very disciplined, I hope he can help the National Team," he wished. Regarding the present, Nuno described his work at West Ham as "very intense" since his arrival, focusing exclusively on the demanding mission of keeping the historic club in the elite of English football. When confronted with a possible return to Portugal, the coach did not stray from his path: "Tomorrow… we haven't talked about that in a long time, but for me, it's day by day. So now I'm going to travel and tomorrow I have a training session to prepare for the FA Cup. So that is my priority." Still, the coach keeps a close eye on what is happening in Portuguese soil, not hiding his satisfaction with the progress of Ian Cathro, his former assistant, at Estoril. "I'm happy for him. More than anything because he is very, very happy living in Portugal, he loves Portugal. I talk to him regularly. He is doing a fantastic job at Estoril. I hope the season ends well. He is a young coach with a lot of quality."
