The English team, which shares a training complex with Portugal before the World Cup in Florida, is prevented from using the fields designated for the Portuguese team due to competition regulations.
Key details
Despite both teams being based in the same location, the Gardens North County District Park, in Palm Beach Gardens, Harry Kane’s team will not be able to use the pitches reserved for Portugal, reminds the newspaper The Athletic. The measure aims to comply with the «Field Protection Period», a World Cup rule that prevents the use of training fields in the 28 days prior to the teams’ arrival, in order to guarantee the quality of the pitches.
The complex, with an area of more than 330 thousand square meters, has ten football pitches with FIFA standard measurements, thus allowing the two teams to be accommodated at the same time. The English team, led by Thomas Tuchel, has been in the United States since June 1st to adapt to the heat.
According to the same source, the English delegation was already aware of this restriction before the trip and was satisfied with the alternative facilities they have at their disposal in the same complex.
Before the start of the World Cup, England has friendlies scheduled against New Zealand, in Tampa, on Saturday, and Costa Rica, in Orlando, on Wednesday, followed by Kansas, where they will have their headquarters during the competition.
In turn, the Portuguese team continues its preparation in Cidade do Futebol. The team will also play two preparatory games on home soil, facing Chile on Saturday and Nigeria on Wednesday, before traveling to the United States.
