Harry Maguire Matheus Cunha – Manchester United Trio Charged with Speeding

Three Manchester United players, Harry Maguire, Matheus Cunha, and Altay Bayindir, have been charged with speeding violations in separate incidents that occurred last year. According to Sky, Harry Maguire, the English international defender, was fined over 100 euros for speeding. The 33-year-old player, who was not selected by Thomas Tuchel for the 2026 World Cup, was caught driving his Range Rover, valued at 150,000 euros, at around 60 km/h in a 48 km/h zone in Altrincham. The conviction for this offense occurred on December 28. Maguire, who had previously been banned from driving for 56 days in January of last year for a similar reason, pleaded guilty in writing. The sentence was handed down at Tameside Magistrates’ Court, resulting in a fine, a loss of three points on his driving license, and the payment of 139 euros in court costs along with a surcharge of 460 euros to a victim support fund. In addition to Maguire, two other teammates are facing criminal charges. Backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, 28, was caught on November 24 driving a Mercedes at 66 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in Hale Barns. The offense was recorded around 11:00 PM, about an hour after Manchester United’s defeat against Everton. The Turkish international, called up for the World Cup, pleaded guilty and was fined 770 euros, with a penalty of three points on his license, 139 euros in costs, and a surcharge of 308 euros. Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, 27, has been charged not only with speeding but also with failing to respond to police letters to identify the driver of the vehicle. A Mercedes registered in his name was detected at 60 km/h on the same road where Bayindir was caught. The incident occurred on August 17, hours after the defeat against Arsenal in the opening round of the Premier League. For not responding to the authorities, Matheus Cunha faces an additional criminal charge and has yet to make any statement. The forward, who is part of Brazil’s squad for the World Cup, will have a court hearing on December 16 at Bolton Magistrates’ Court.
