Sergio Ramos Nido Carrasco – Sevilla President Closes the Door on Sergio Ramos’ Return

José María del Nido Carrasco, president of Sevilla, addressed the current situation of the club, taking responsibility for Sergio Ramos not returning to Andalusia and discussing the criticism he has faced, his confidence in the coach and sporting director, and the future of the current 13th place team in La Liga. In an interview with Canal Sur, the leader of the Sevillians was unequivocal regarding the Sergio Ramos issue. "The decision for Ramos not to play for Sevilla is mine," he stated, explaining his position. "Everyone knows how hard I fought for him to play here two years ago and then to stay. I told Sergio's close circle that, for me, it was incompatible to be an owner and at the same time play for Sevilla," he revealed. Del Nido Carrasco added that, although the club has no salary cap, "the decision has nothing to do with the sporting aspect," absolving coach Matías Almeyda and sporting director Antonio Cordón of any responsibility in the matter. The president faces strong criticism from fans, including chants wishing him death, a situation he regrets. "One thing is for them to chant 'Junior, go away,' another is to wish you death. That is not pleasant and must be condemned," he said, acknowledging the weight of the situation. "Every night I ask myself if it is worth continuing at the helm of Sevilla, but I accept being the villain of this film." Despite the pressure, Del Nido Carrasco assures that he will not abandon his position. "I could run away, but as long as I have the support of the Board and the Junta, I will continue to make what I believe are the best decisions for Sevilla, whether they are understood or not. My Sevillismo and my responsibility do not allow me to leave in a conflict situation," he emphasized, assuring that he is taking the necessary measures to "ensure Sevilla's survival," even if that involves difficult decisions like not keeping Badé and Lukebakio. Confidence in the football structure, led by Matías Almeyda and Antonio Cordón, is total. "The confidence in Almeyda is absolute. I talk to Matías and see him every day. He is strong, a fighter, and the ideal person to lead this Sevilla," he declared, also praising the sporting director: "He had the courage to come to Sevilla. Bringing in eight players while investing 250,000 euros should be noted. I hope he is with me for many years." The president also downplayed rumors of a 300 million euro debt, labeling them as "false news" that brings "nothing good for the club." Regarding a possible sale, he confirmed he is aware of some matters and that, through Sergio Ramos' circle, he knows potential interested parties will analyze the club's situation. "If someone buys the club, I imagine they will be the ones in charge, not us. The day they tell me to leave, I will leave," he concluded, remaining optimistic about the future, despite acknowledging that the club is going through "a transition process."
