Manchester United has announced that it has acquired the “majority of the land needed” to build the new Old Trafford. The Red Devils have purchased 10 hectares located about 350 meters northwest of the current stadium. The CEO of Manchester United stated that the acquisition “exalts progress” in the process of constructing a “world-class new home” for the club. The executive argued that “building the stadium so close” to the iconic venue allows for the preservation of the “legacy, traditions, and rituals” that are “so important” to the fans. The Red Devils reiterate that the entire stadium construction project and the redevelopment of the surrounding area, which will cover a total of 150 hectares, will create “15,000 new homes” and “48,000 local jobs” and generate “7 billion euros annually.” More details about the process will be revealed on July 9. Manchester United aims to build a stadium with a capacity of 100,000 spectators. In statements to MUTV in March, Collette Roche confirmed that the club expects to submit the licensing request in the next 12 to 18 months.
