World Cup – France: 17-Year-Old Dies During Celebrations of Victory Over Morocco

A 17-year-old girl lost her life in the early hours of Friday in northern France during the celebrations of the French national team’s victory over Morocco (2-0) in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup. The fatal incident occurred around 12:15 AM in the town of Aulnoye-Aymeries when the young girl fell. According to AFP, citing firefighters and a source close to the investigation, the girl fell from the truck she had climbed onto to celebrate France’s victory. The truck driver has been detained. This death cast a shadow over a night of celebrations that, overall, took place more calmly than expected, especially in Paris. According to a preliminary police report, there were ten arrests in the capital and its suburbs: three for mobile phone theft, four for violence with a weapon and conspiracy to commit violent acts, and three for firing mortars in Seine-Saint-Denis. It has not been confirmed whether all these arrests resulted in preventive detention. It is worth noting that authorities had identified this quarter-final match as having ‘particular risk’ due to its knockout nature, despite the late broadcast time (10:00 PM).
