The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) tried to convince the coach to lead the team that failed to qualify for the last three World Cups, and in addition to a substantial salary, they offered the Catalan complete freedom to shape the role as he saw fit. However, after considering the proposal, the 55-year-old coach informed the federation of his intention to continue with his sabbatical.
