A harsh blow for the Turkish champion. UEFA has prohibited Galatasaray from selling tickets to their fans for the trip to Anfield, for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, following disturbances that occurred in the previous round against Juventus. The governing body of European football sanctioned the Turkish club due to the behavior of their supporters in the match played in Turin on February 25, which ended with the Turks qualifying in extra time. According to UEFA, fans threw objects and set off fireworks during the match. In addition to the ticket sales ban for the game in Liverpool, the current leader of the Turkish league was fined 40,000 euros. In an official statement released on Wednesday, Galatasaray announced that they will appeal the sanction imposed by UEFA. Despite the 2-3 defeat in Italy, Galatasaray secured their passage to the next stage of the Champions League with an impressive aggregate score of 7-5. The Turkish team will now host Liverpool in Istanbul next Tuesday at 5:45 PM, with the second leg scheduled for Anfield on March 18 at 8:00 PM.
