Ricardo Sousa FC Petrolul Ploiesti – Market: Ricardo Sousa signs with Romanian club

Portuguese coach Ricardo Sousa was officially announced as the new technical commander of FC Petrolul Ploiesti, a Romanian club. The 47-year-old coach signed a contract valid until the end of the 2026/2027 season.

Ricardo Sousa will start working at the club on June 15th. With him, assistants Tiago Alexander Martins Galhardo Ferreira and Andre Pereira de Matos arrive in Ploiești, as well as video analyst Nuno Simao Gomes Da Costa, who will complete the technical committee.

The club presents its new coach: as a player, Ricardo Sousa played more than 150 games in the Portuguese first division, representing clubs such as FC Porto, Beira-Mar, Santa Clara, Belenenses and Boavista. His international career included spells in Germany (Hannover 96, Offenbach), the Netherlands (De Graafschap), Cyprus (Omonia Nicosia) and Slovenia (Drava Ptuj), having also represented Portugal in all youth teams.

The transition to head coach began in 2015, at Sanjoanense. Since then, he has guided several teams at lower levels, such as Lusitano VRSA, Anadia, Felgueiras and Beira-Mar. He then made the jump to Liga Portugal 2, where he accumulated 99 games as coach of Mafra, Feirense and, more recently, Vizela, in the first half of the 2025/2026 season. His career also includes an experience in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ain, in the 2024/2025 season.
