When we look at [Mainoo], someone who wasn't playing, coming into a Man United team that isn't in great shape… to play in that midfield, where all the questions were centered… just the quality." He continued, "I think it's very embarrassing for Ruben Amorim, to be totally honest. Because what we saw was a product of Man United's academy who wasn't given the opportunity to play and was very, very close to leaving the club." Wright concluded by praising Mainoo’s recent performances as "brilliant."
