Montserrat Football Association Seeks New Head Coach via Social Media

The Montserrat Football Association has taken the unusual step of using social media to announce a vacancy for the position of head coach of the Montserrat national football team. This approach to recruitment has quickly attracted attention within the football community.

Montserrat, a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean Sea southeast of Puerto Rico and northwest of Venezuela, is a small island with an area of just 102 square kilometers and a population under six thousand. The national team is governed by the Montserrat Football Association and competes as a member of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF).

The team faces significant logistical challenges, largely due to the island's ongoing volcanic activity. This natural hazard has limited the number of home matches played on Montserrat, often forcing the team to host games in other countries. Such difficulties impact the team's ability to establish a consistent home advantage and complicate preparations for international competitions.

The coaching vacancy requires candidates to hold at least a UEFA, CONMEBOL, or CONCACAF B license, with a preference for those possessing a PRO qualification. Additionally, applicants must have between three to five years of coaching experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive technical project spanning from youth development to the senior national team.

The deadline for applications is set for the 17th of this month. The previous head coach, Angus Eve, a former Trinidad and Tobago international, was appointed in 2025 with the goal of leading Montserrat through the CONCACAF qualification rounds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under his leadership, the team was eliminated in the second round of qualifying, finishing fourth in Group D.
