Russian footballer Danil Sekach, 20, confessed to murdering a businesswoman at her residence in Moscow, following orders from scammers, according to the Russian Investigative Committee (CIR). The young player, who faces a murder charge, risks a prison sentence of up to 15 years. Sekach, who has previously represented Russia's youth teams, admitted to the crime and expressed remorse. "I admit everything and regret it," he stated. According to the confession released by the CIR on Telegram, the footballer went to the victim's apartment with the intention of opening a safe. "At the order of the scammers, the assailant arrived at the apartment to open the safe. Then, they ordered him to kill the owner of the apartment," the statement reads. The crime occurred last Friday when the businesswoman was assaulted with multiple punches and stabs after refusing to reveal the combination to the safe. The robbery took place while the victim's 16-year-old daughter was at home; she had also been deceived over the phone by the same scammers, who posed as police officers. After the murder, and following the instructions received, Sekach threw the stolen goods, money, jewelry, and collectible coins out the window. The player also held the victim's daughter captive until the following day. The footballer was arrested the next day at a hotel located about 14 kilometers from the crime scene. Danil Sekach was currently representing the B team of Ural Yekaterinburg. Club sources revealed to RIA Novosti that the defender had left the team days earlier, claiming he was going to Moscow to study. His training path included a stint at the Lokomotiv Moscow academy.
