Glenn Nyberg, 37, from Sweden, has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the SC Braga vs. Ferencvaros match this Wednesday, in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16. This will be the second time the referee encounters Braga, having previously officiated the SC Braga vs. Ludogorets match in the group stage of the 2021/2022 Europa League, which the Minho warriors won 4-2. Nyberg, a Champions League referee — he has officiated five matches in the prestigious league this season, marking his debut in the Europa League — will be assisted in Braga by compatriots Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Soderkvist, with Kristoffer Karlsson as the fourth official. The VAR duo is Dutch: Pol van Boekel and Dennis Johan Higler. In addition to the Braga match against Ludogorets, Nyberg has also officiated Benfica — a home draw (3-3) against Monaco in last season's Champions League playoff — and the Portugal national team — on two occasions, a victory (1-0) in Slovakia during the Euro 2024 qualifiers and, more recently, a defeat (0-2) in Ireland in the qualification for the 2026 World Cup, during which he sent off Cristiano Ronaldo for aggression.
