Marseille has officially announced the departure of Medhi Benatia as Director of Football, with effect from May 18, 2026. The former Moroccan international thus ends a two and a half year cycle in the structure of the French emblem, precisely the same club where he graduated as a player. Benatia had returned to Marseille in late 2023 to take up the role of sports advisor, eventually being promoted to the club’s football leadership in early 2025.

Under his sporting umbrella, Marseille reached second place in Ligue 1 during the 2024-2025 season. It also promoted active management in the transfer market that valued the main squad and implemented a profound reorganization of the training center, the first results of which are already very promising for the future of the institution.
Marseilla owner Frank Mc Court made a point of publicly thanking Benatia for his dedication, praising his sense of responsibility and the commitment shown by agreeing to remain in office until the end of the season.
