SC Braga Municipal de Braga – UEFA punishes Ferencváros after match with SC Braga: section closed and heavy fine

The UEFA Appeals Committee has imposed severe sanctions on Ferencváros following incidents that occurred during their match against SC Braga on March 12, in a UEFA Europa League fixture. The most serious sanction relates to the racist behavior of the home fans, which led UEFA to activate a previously suspended penalty, requiring the immediate closure of section B2 of their stadium for the next European match. In addition to this closure, a fine of 20,000 euros was imposed for new discriminatory behaviors, and the closure of an additional 500 seats in sections C4 and C5 was ordered, although this last measure is suspended for a period of one year. The problems for the Hungarians did not stop with the discriminatory behavior, as the use of pyrotechnic materials during the match against the Portuguese team resulted in an additional fine of 11,250 euros. Ferencváros won the match against SC Braga 2-0, but lost in the second leg at the Estádio Municipal de Braga, which allowed the Portuguese team to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
