Graeme Souness, former Liverpool star, has no doubt that Mohamed Salah's best days are behind him and considers the Egyptian to be the main culprit for the team's poor performance in the Premier League. In statements to the Daily Mail, Souness even argues that the forward should leave the club at the end of the season. "In my opinion and based on my experience, what happens is that your career can take two paths when you reach 33-34 years old: either it’s a sharp decline or a slow decline. I think Salah is the first case," the Scot stated, adding that the player has not regained his form since the start of the season. "I went to see the first game of the season, the Super Cup against Crystal Palace, and I told my son: 'I don’t know what’s going on with him.' I thought maybe he needed a few games to find his rhythm, but he never improved," explained the former Benfica coach, before referencing the statistics: 10 goals and nine assists (last season he had 44 goal contributions, the previous season he had 34). "His numbers are well below and he is the main reason why Liverpool is having an inconsistent season. When you are in that position, great players need to step up, and it has been a shock for the fans, the coach, and the coaching staff that those players have not done so," he noted. When asked if he should leave, he did not hesitate: "Yes." "His best is behind him, there’s no doubt. He was, for six or seven years, the reference man for Liverpool. He is a great player, a Liverpool legend, but his best phase is over."
