John Terry, former captain of Chelsea, expressed his 'frustration' at not being considered to take over as interim manager of the team following Enzo Maresca's departure in January. The club legend, who currently serves as a part-time mentor at Chelsea's academy, was not part of the temporary coaching staff that led the club in matches against Manchester City and Fulham. After Maresca's unexpected exit, the choice for interim manager fell to Calum Mc Farlane, the full-time coach of the under-21 team. Later, Liam Rosenior, from Strasbourg, a partner club, was appointed as the permanent head coach. In statements to the You Tube channel Golf Life, Terry clarified his feelings about the decision. 'I'm not angry, maybe more frustrated, because I was part of that under-21 group that was called up,' he said. 'Even if it wasn't me leading the team… Calum took over, did very well, and got a good result. I feel I should have been part of that,' he added. The former England international further stated, 'People have to make decisions. I like it when people make decisions and say yes or no. Clearly, the management, or whoever made these decisions — the sporting directors — said no to my inclusion for some reason. I don't know why…' Terry's frustration is compounded by the fact that he holds the UEFA Pro License and a FIFA diploma in leadership, the highest coaching qualifications. In contrast, Mc Farlane only holds the UEFA B License. However, Chelsea's management considered him the most suitable option, given his regular collaboration with Maresca in the under-21s and the use of a similar playing system, which would allow for a smoother transition. Since then, Mc Farlane has impressed Rosenior and has been promoted to his main coaching staff. Terry already has experience as an assistant coach to Dean Smith (currently at FC Charlotte) at Aston Villa and Leicester City. He currently manages a six-a-side football team of influencers, the 26ers, in the Baller League. His current role at Chelsea is limited to the academy teams, with minimal interaction with first-team players, except for those who graduated from the club, such as current captain Reece James. This is not the first time Terry has expressed his discontent with the lack of opportunities. In an interview with BBC Sport in March, he lamented the situation. 'It's really disheartening. I've applied for some positions and haven't gotten them due to a lack of experience as a head coach, but having been captain of Chelsea and my national team, I don't know what more can be done in terms of leading teams and people,' he vented.
