Thomas Tuchel has found an unusual way to prepare England for the 2026 World Cup: sending players on vacation to US time zones. The English coach advised several internationals to spend their rest period in North America or the Caribbean, in order to speed up their adaptation to the schedule and conditions they will encounter during the competition.
Key details
The move comes as the England team prepares to travel to Florida, where they will begin their preparation camp ahead of friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica. According to the English press, many players followed the German coach’s recommendation and spent their holidays on the other side of the Atlantic.
The explanation is simple: England will be based in Kansas City, six hours behind British time, while some of the group stage matches will be played in cities with similar time zone differences. Tuchel therefore intends to reduce the impact of jet lag as much as possible and ensure that the players arrive at the tournament already adapted.
But the schedule is not the only concern. The high temperatures predicted for several matches are also being closely monitored. Studies show that around a quarter of World Cup games are played in temperatures above 26 degrees.
In a competition where details make the difference, Tuchel decided to start playing the World Cup… before the players even returned to work.
