Preston midfielder Jordan Thompson has been handed a three-match suspension for violent conduct after kicking a water bottle that struck a fan in the stands. The incident occurred last Saturday during the 0-2 defeat against Norwich at Carrow Road. After being substituted in the 65th minute, the 29-year-old was heading to the bench when he kicked the bottle towards the stands, hitting a spectator in the head. Although the player raised his hand in apology, the moment was not seen by the match referee, Gavin Ward. However, the Football Association (FA) proceeded with a charge of violent conduct. In a statement, the FA confirmed the sanction. "Jordan Thompson denied the charge against him, but an independent Regulatory Commission found it proven after a hearing and imposed the standard punishment of a three-match suspension for violent conduct," the official statement read. Due to this punishment, the Northern Ireland international will miss Preston's upcoming Championship matches against Stoke City, Leicester, and Queens Park Rangers. Currently, his team sits in 17th place in the table, with a 10-point cushion above the relegation zone, with eight matches remaining. Thompson joined the club in the summer after his contract with Stoke ended, but he only made his debut in November due to ankle surgery. Since then, he has played 16 matches. The player was developed in the Manchester United academy and has also had stints at clubs like Rangers and Blackpool.
