Mile Svilar, Roma goalkeeper, expressed his joy at the team’s qualification for the Champions League, highlighting the club’s merit and the importance of the fans’ support. Speaking to Tele Radio Stereo, the ex-Benfica goalkeeper expressed his pride in the completed season and highlighted that Roma belong to the elite of European football.
Key details
“Roma deserves to be where it is today. A club like Roma must always be in the Champions League. Getting there like this, like this, is really… I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s exciting. It’s beautiful,” said Svilar, recognizing the value of the team. Asked about the feeling of returning the club to the main European competition in front of a stadium consistently filled with 70 thousand people, Svilar did not hide his emotion: «Even before arriving here, when I watched the Europa League and Conference League games on television, I realized how much these fans deserved these stages.»
The goalkeeper also praised coach Gasperini’s management, considering it fundamental to the team’s success, especially in the most difficult moments of the season. “In such a long season, there are always complicated moments, but the coach was brilliant in managing us, even in the not so good periods,” he explained. According to Svilar, the belief instilled by the coach was decisive: «He played a huge role. Even three or four weeks ago, in the not so good moments, he kept telling us that we were going to make it, that we were going to the Champions League. He always made us believe in this goal and then we all believed together.”
Svilar attributed the success to a collective effort, stating that «everyone contributed a little to achieve our goal».
Finally, the player left a message of gratitude to the fans: “I want to thank them, I really like them and I’m really happy for them, because they really deserve it.”
