It is worth remembering that Tottenham, at the time managed by Thomas Frank, had already tried to sign Robertson during the January transfer market. There was even an agreement between the two clubs, but Liverpool ended up backing down on the decision after not being able to return Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.
Spurs’ new coach, Roberto de Zerbi, who secured their place in the Premier League in the last round by beating Everton, was pleased with the acquisition: “Andy is someone I have admired for several years and who will bring exceptional technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” said De Zerbi. “He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period of time and someone who can be an important player for us, both on and off the field.”
