Ian Wright, Arsenal legend, launched a scathing attack on former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, labeling his management of midfielder Kobbie Mainoo as "very embarrassing." Wright's comments came after Mainoo delivered another outstanding performance in United's recent 2-0 victory over Tottenham, continuing his resurgence under manager Michael Carrick. Before Amorim's dismissal, the young United academy product had been overlooked, making only one start in a humiliating League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town. The discontent of the 20-year-old grew to the point where he was allegedly planning a loan move to Napoli in Serie A to secure playing time. However, since Carrick took charge and immediately reintegrated him into the starting lineup, Mainoo has rediscovered the form that earned him a place in the England squad for the European Championship at just 18 years old. Commenting on Premier League World, Wright did not hold back in his criticism of the dismissed Portuguese manager. "Everyone was confused about what was happening under Ruben Amorim's management," Wright stated. "When we look at [Mainoo], someone who wasn't playing, coming into a Man United team that isn't in great shape… to play in that midfield, where all the questions were centered… just the quality." Wright highlighted the immediate impact of the midfielder and questioned Amorim's decision: "I think it's very embarrassing for Ruben Amorim, to be totally honest. Because what we saw was a product of Man United's academy who wasn't given the opportunity to play and was very, very close to leaving the club." He added: "He was brilliant." Mainoo's performance against Spurs received widespread praise, not only for his intelligent assist for Bryan Mbeumo's opening goal but also for his dominant presence in midfield alongside Casemiro.
