Former Oliveirense Returns Fukushima United – Former Oliveirense Returns to the Pitch… at 58 Years Old

Kazuyoshi Miura, the Japanese forward considered the oldest active professional footballer in the world, returned to competition with Fukushima United, ending a nearly two-year absence. The striker continues to defy time, and at 58 years and 346 days, he played in an official match again — he started in his team's 1-4 defeat against Ventforet Kofu in a game counting for the Japanese second division (J2 League). Miura's return to the pitch took place this Saturday, but his participation was brief: coach Shuhei Terada included him in the starting eleven but substituted him just 19 minutes into the match — Hiroki Higuchi, who replaced him, would ironically be the one to score the consolation goal. In the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, Kazuyoshi Miura represented Oliveirense — the last game he played for the Liga 2 team, against Leixões, in 2024, ended in defeat (1-3).
