Serdal Adali, president of Besiktas, closed the door on a possible departure for captain Orkun Kokçu, guaranteeing in statements to the newspaper Fanatik that the player is not for sale, despite interest from big clubs.
Key details
Despite a season below expectations for the club, the former Benfica player has been one of the team’s few positives. The Turkish international, who arrived at the club he is a fan of in the summer, has justified the captain’s armband with high-level performances, especially in the second half of the season.
The 25-year-old midfielder is even tipped by the Turkish press for Real Madrid. However, Besiktas president Serdal Adali was adamant about the player’s future. “We have no intention of letting our captain leave. First, let him win with Besiktas, his club. We’ll see later”, he said.
Adali highlighted the importance of the player fulfilling his mission at the club before a possible move to a European giant. “Of course we would also like him to represent Besiktas at a big European club. But, before that, he must complete his mission at Besiktas, of which he is also a fan”, he added.
The Turkish club’s director insisted that the decision is not a financial issue, reinforcing the intransigence of his position. «What I’m trying to say has nothing to do with money. Even if they offered 100 million euros, we have no intention of selling Orkun», he guaranteed.
