The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, reflected on the concept of equality in football during the presentation of a report on the economic impact of the sport in Spain. The fight against discrimination is a goal, but the leader expressed realism: ‘We must be cautious, as this is directly related to what each industry generates. It is impossible to achieve real equality in terms of salaries.’ Tebas later reinforced his position with a curious comparison: ‘It’s like in modeling: male models earn less than women. Let me give you an example of equality. It is always said that those who do the same job should receive the same, but the right-back from Levante does not earn the same as the one from Real Madrid.’ The money generated influences Tebas’s reflection, who nonetheless emphasized the importance of ‘avoiding discrimination against women.’
