FIFA, the governing body of world football, announced a partnership with the Board of Peace, a new organization led by U.S. President Donald Trump, to attract investment from global leaders and institutions for sustainable development in conflict-affected regions, using football as a tool. The first meeting took place in recent hours and focused on the Gaza reconstruction fund, which aims to rebuild the territory following the disarmament of Hamas. The collaboration plan with FIFA includes the construction of 50 mini-pitches near schools and residential areas in Gaza, five football fields in various districts, a FIFA academy, and a new national stadium with a capacity of 20,000 spectators. According to Donald Trump, FIFA will raise $75 million / €64 million for these football-related projects in Gaza. In a statement, FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of the agreement. 'Today, FIFA and the Board of Peace signed a historic partnership agreement that will foster investment in football with the purpose of aiding the recovery process in post-conflict areas,' he stated. According to FIFA, the program will also emphasize job creation, youth participation, the organization of leagues for boys and girls, community involvement, and the stimulation of local business activities. However, significant challenges are expected in the coming months, including the disarmament of Hamas fighters, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the need for reconstruction, and the flow of humanitarian aid to the war-devastated population. At the same time, Infantino and UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin have been accused of 'complicity in war crimes' and 'crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territory' in a formal complaint filed with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
