FIFA and Board of Peace Announce Major Football Infrastructure Plan for Gaza Reconstruction

FIFA has announced a partnership with the Board of Peace, a new organization led by U.S. President Donald Trump, to support the reconstruction of Gaza through significant football infrastructure projects. This collaboration aims to attract investment from global leaders and institutions to promote sustainable development in the conflict-affected region.

The initiative focuses on rebuilding Gaza following recent political developments, including the disarmament of Hamas. The plan includes the construction of 50 mini-pitches near schools and residential areas, five full-sized football fields across different districts, a FIFA academy, and a new national stadium with a capacity of 20,000 spectators. These facilities are intended to serve as community hubs and promote football as a tool for social recovery.

According to Donald Trump, FIFA will raise approximately $75 million (€64 million) to fund these football-related projects in Gaza. FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted the significance of the partnership, describing it as a historic agreement that aims to foster investment in football to aid the recovery process in post-conflict areas. The program also plans to emphasize job creation, youth participation, the organization of leagues for both boys and girls, community involvement, and the stimulation of local business activities.

Despite the ambitious plans, the region faces considerable challenges in the coming months. These include the disarmament of Hamas fighters, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the urgent need for reconstruction, and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid to a population severely affected by conflict. Additionally, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin have recently faced formal complaints filed with the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing them of complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territory.
