Chicago Fire coach Gregg Berhalter publicly confirmed the North American club’s interest in signing Robert Lewandowski. The former United States coach addressed the topic in a press conference this Monday.

“I can speak freely because he is no longer a Barcelona player, or won’t be next week, and he is someone we want to sign,” said Berhalter, revealing that contacts with the Polish striker are not recent. According to the Spanish press, talks between the parties have been taking place since December 2025.
The coach detailed the communication established: «We have been talking to Robert Lewandowski and his inner circle. We had a lot of communication, both with him and his agent». Berhalter was convinced that the attacker will have other proposals in hand. «I’m sure that a player of his caliber must have offers. I have a hard time believing that there aren’t others,” he added.
For the Chicago Fire, Lewandowski’s arrival would be a strategic asset, not only in the sport, but also for the local community. «We believe that the Polish community, and not only it, but the entire Chicago community, supports this transfer. We believe he is a fantastic signing for the club, the city and the league”, explained the coach.
From a football point of view, Berhalter believes that the Pole would be an undisputed asset. «A player of such a high level can only strengthen our team and its potential. We already have a very strong offensive team, and its incorporation can only strengthen us even more», he analyzed. However, Lewandowski’s future may involve other destinations, and clubs in Saudi Arabia are also very interested.
