Bayern Munich officially announced on Monday the signing of the first professional contract for young Portuguese player David Santos Daiber. The young midfielder, who has represented Portugal at youth levels, signed a long-term deal valid until June 30, 2030. Santos, 19, joined the Bavarian club at just nine years old and progressed through all the youth ranks at Bayern Campus before reaching the first team. Born in Luxembourg, Daiber holds nationality from that country as well as Germany, with Portugal being the only country he has represented at the national level – he is a regular presence in the Portuguese U19 team. Christoph Freund, Bayern's Sporting Director, stated: "We are always very pleased when a player like David, who joined the club as a young talent, becomes a professional at Bayern. He has great game intelligence, is secure on the ball, and is an extremely reliable midfielder. In recent months, he has taken an important step in his development thanks to regular training with the first team, and we have a lot of confidence in him." Currently recovering from a muscle injury, Santos has already made his debut for the senior team under the management of Vincent Kompany, having played twice – this occurred in December during the 4-0 victory against Heidenheim, and he added minutes in the 4-1 win against Borussia Monchengladbach in early March. "This new contract ensures the continuity of one of the club's biggest prospects in Bavaria, although Bayern does not rule out a possible loan next season for the player to gain competitive rhythm and experience at the highest level," the club stated.
